# Google DNS API: Get DNS records

> Looks up DNS records for a domain or pasted website link and summarizes its SPF record, DMARC policy and mail servers. A missing record type yields an empty records list.

Unofficial. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Google DNS.

- Page: https://fous.com/methods/dns.google/get-dns-records
- Method: `dns.google/get_dns_records`, version 1
- Website: dns.google
- Returns: DNS records (type, name, value, TTL, MX priority, lookup link) and email setup (SPF, DMARC policy, mail servers)
- Effect: read (it gets data and changes nothing)
- Sign-in: none needed
- Cost: 1 credit per completed run (1¢ with pay as you go); failed runs are free
- Verified: Nov 2, 2026

## Inputs

| Field | Type | Required | In the run below | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `domain` | string | yes | `"example.com"` | Domain name or pasted website link, for example example.com or https://example.com/about. |
| `record_type` | string | no | | Which DNS records to return, for example MX. Defaults to all. One of "all", "A", "AAAA", "MX", "TXT", "NS", "CNAME", "SOA", "CAA". Default "all". |

## Output

From a run on Oct 23, 2026, shortened. Its input:

```json
{
  "domain": "example.com"
}
```

Its output:

```json
{
  "records": [
    {
      "name": "example.com",
      "value": "172.66.147.243",
      "priority": null,
      "page_link": "https://dns.google/resolve?name=example.com&type=A",
      "record_type": "A",
      "time_to_live_seconds": 300
    },
    {
      "name": "example.com",
      "value": "104.20.23.154",
      "priority": null,
      "page_link": "https://dns.google/resolve?name=example.com&type=A",
      "record_type": "A",
      "time_to_live_seconds": 300
    },
    {
      "name": "example.com",
      "value": "2606:4700:10::6814:179a",
      "priority": null,
      "page_link": "https://dns.google/resolve?name=example.com&type=AAAA",
      "record_type": "AAAA",
      "time_to_live_seconds": 300
    }
  ],
  "email_setup": {
    "spf_record": "v=spf1 -all",
    "dmarc_policy": "reject",
    "has_mail_servers": false
  }
}
```

## Run it

From code, with a Fous API key in `FOUS_API_KEY`; the answer's `data` holds the output:

```bash
curl https://api.fous.com/v1/runs \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $FOUS_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"method":"dns.google/get_dns_records","input":{"domain":"example.com"}}'
```

From an AI agent connected to the Fous MCP server: its `run` with the same method and input. To connect one, give it `set up https://fous.com/SKILL.md`.

## Ask your agent

- Can you pull the MX records for mycompany.io so I can see which mail servers handle its email?
- What's the SPF and DMARC setup for brightlabs.org? I want to know if their email is locked down.
- Look up all DNS records for https://shop.example-store.net/checkout and summarize them.
- I need the TXT records for newsroom-daily.com to check for domain verification entries.
- Which nameservers are authoritative for 203-cloud.dev? Also show the TTL values if you can.
