# NOAA API: Get tide times

> Finds the nearest NOAA tide prediction station to a US coastal place (within 30 miles) and returns its high and low tide times in local time with predicted heights above MLLW.

Unofficial. Not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA.

- Page: https://fous.com/methods/tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/get-tide-times
- Method: `tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/get_tide_times`, version 1
- Website: tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov
- Returns: station name and ID, distance, high and low tide times with heights, and page links
- Effect: read (it gets data and changes nothing)
- Sign-in: none needed
- Cost: 1 credit per completed run (1¢ with pay as you go); failed runs are free
- Verified: Nov 2, 2026

## Inputs

| Field | Type | Required | In the run below | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| `days` | integer | no | `31` | Number of local days to include, 1 to 31, for example 3. Default 3. |
| `units` | string | no | `"feet"` | Height units, feet or metres, for example feet. One of "feet", "metres". Default "feet". |
| `location` | string | yes | `"Santa Monica"` | US coastal town, beach or harbor, for example Santa Monica or Boston Harbor. |
| `start_date` | string | no | `"2026-10-03"` | First local date to include (YYYY-MM-DD), for example 2026-10-03. Defaults to today at the station. |

## Output

From a run on Oct 23, 2026, shortened. Its input:

```json
{
  "days": 31,
  "units": "feet",
  "location": "Santa Monica",
  "start_date": "2026-10-03"
}
```

Its output:

```json
{
  "tides": [
    {
      "type": "high",
      "unit": "feet",
      "height": 3.456,
    },
      "tide_time": "2026-10-03T15:11:00-07:00"
    }
  ],
  "latitude": 34.0083,
  "longitude": -118.5,
  "station_id": "9410840",
  "station_name": "Santa Monica, Municipal Pier",
  "distance_miles": 0.92,
  "height_reference": "Mean lower low water (MLLW)"
}
```

## Run it

From code, with a Fous API key in `FOUS_API_KEY`; the answer's `data` holds the output:

```bash
curl https://api.fous.com/v1/runs \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $FOUS_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"method":"tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/get_tide_times","input":{"days":31,"units":"feet","location":"Santa Monica","start_date":"2026-10-03"}}'
```

From an AI agent connected to the Fous MCP server: its `run` with the same method and input. To connect one, give it `set up https://fous.com/SKILL.md`.

## Ask your agent

- When is high tide at Santa Monica Pier this weekend, and how tall will it be in feet?
- I'm planning a kayak trip out of Boston Harbor on 2026-10-03. Can you list the high and low tide times for the next 5 days in metres?
- What are the tide times near Cape May, NJ for the coming week? Show heights above MLLW.
- Need tide predictions for a Florida Keys beach starting 2026-11-14, covering two weeks, in feet, from the closest NOAA station.
- On the noaa.gov site, find the nearest tide station to Newport Beach and give me the low tide times for tomorrow.
