# Google Scholar API

> Google Scholar returns papers, researcher profiles, citations, and citing papers as a workflow and API.

Google Scholar’s Search papers finds papers using required topic or title words, with optional author, year, and order filters. Get author profile returns public researcher details and citation metrics from a required name, with an optional institution. Get citation formats a paper citation by title; List citing papers finds papers citing a title.

## Methods

### Get author profile

Operation `get_author_profile`, version 1. 1 credit per call.

Get a researcher’s public Google Scholar profile, citation metrics, yearly citations and up to 20 most-cited papers by name. An institution can help distinguish researchers with the same name.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| `researcher` | string | yes | `"Yoshua Bengio"` | Researcher’s name, for example Geoffrey Hinton. |
| `institution` | string | no | `"University of Montreal"` | Optional institution to select the right person, for example University of Toronto. |

Or describe the data in plain language: send `{"api":"@google-scholar","prompt":"Describe the data you need, with every detail"}` to the same URL. Fous fills in the input, runs the method that fits and returns only the fields you asked for; `data.route.calls[].request` is the exact call it made. Routing is free; the run costs the same.

## Use cases

- Find papers on a topic for a literature review
- Track a researcher’s citation metrics over time
- Prepare formatted citations for a paper
- Identify papers citing a selected study
- Distinguish researchers with similar names using their institutions

## FAQ

### Is Fous affiliated with Google Scholar?

No. Fous is not affiliated with Google Scholar. This workflow reads the public scholar.google.com website and returns its data.

### How much does it cost?

Each run costs 1 credit. With pay-as-you-go, a credit costs 1¢; monthly plans cost less per credit.

### Do I need a Google Scholar account?

No. You only need a Fous account.

### How current is the data?

Fous gets the data from scholar.google.com when you run it; repeating the same request within a day may return the saved result. Fous checks this workflow automatically; it last passed a check on Sep 28, 2026.

### Which papers cite a particular study?

List citing papers finds public papers citing a paper matched by title, with an optional author filter.

### What are a researcher’s citation metrics?

Get author profile returns citation metrics, yearly citations, and other public profile details for a researcher.

### How can I get a formatted citation for a paper?

Get citation returns ready-made citations in several styles for a paper found by title, with an optional author filter.
