Wow. An amazing experience - ‘skip the line guided tour’ - the guide was lovely. Despite booking onto the Italian speaking tour of the underground as it was the only option, the guide spoke in English and allowed us time to wander the underground for a limited time before regrouping and taking us to the arena. Well priced. It is a popular and overcrowded attraction but that was to be expected. Long queues and not well signposted. We were stood in a queue for 30 minutes and as when we got to the staff at the tents, they told us we were at the wrong tent and redirected us. Apart from that slight hiccup, it was a great experience and the highlight of the trip!

Booked ‘skip the line guided tour’ but when you get there to pick up said tickets, it’s difficult to know where to go as nothing is signed posted! Luckily there is quite if lot of people about who know what to do! A skip the line ticket is a must!! I would also suggest a guided tour, some great info from our tour guide and it doesn’t last too long that it bores you!

It’s hard to understand how the people in charge of this place could let it go like this. Don’t come here expecting to see gladiators or actually any sporting events. Don’t believe the version you’ve seen in movies because they make it look SO MUCH better. The reality is they’ve let it become a rundown pile of rocks. Most of it is completely broken so that it’s just walls and a pile of rubble. No upkeep at all. Useless junk.

I was denied entry because I had a Swiss Army knife with me. In Rome, no problem to date. Throw the knife away or no access. I wanted to give it to security and pick it up later, but that was also refused. Discussion with threats to call the police. In the end, lost the knife. Very poorly managed, Visiting the Colosseum is not pleasant, crowds of people pushing you forward, uncomfortable crowding in every direction. Not an experience, everything completely overcrowded; it is enough to view the Colosseum from the outside. Thumbs way down.

The Colosseum is an example of engineering and social organization: the seating area was divided by social class, spectators entered through numerous vomitoria, and the hypogeum allowed for the preparation of scenery and animals. Few remember that the ancient name was Amphitheatrum Flavium and that the building was inaugurated by Titus in 80 A.D. with games that lasted one hundred days, while Domitian completed some underground structures. We have just started to do some European city breaks and rome was one the places we decided to do. With suxh deep rich history rome doesnt disappoint, with so much to see and do. From a hop on hop of bus to trevi fountain and the Colosseum. History buff or not Rome is definitely worth a visit

The Colosseum was very impressive. It is much grander in person than I imagined. It was especially interesting to imagine how much was happening here many centuries ago. This place has an incredible atmosphere and history, it is definitely something you must see with your own eyes.
